Appropriated magazine clippings

Experimenting with several narratives within one piece.

Simple Narrative Experimentation

'The Meeting'

In my 3rd year I developed further by bringing elements of narrative into my work. Allowing the audience to become more active in the depiction of my work. My images are like small fragments of a narrative, using visual suggestion and erotic undertones to direct the viewer's train of thought.

I appropriate imagery from popular culture such as women's high fashion magazines.

I ordered some ingredients for making my own rabbit skin glue and gesso the traditional way. These are two paintings I did for my 2nd year final show university.
Painting Like The Masters Workshop

I signed myself up for a painting workshop. I had been wanting to do some oil paintings.  The workshop was 8 hours all together, so we didn't have much time. Here are some experiments done within the workshop.

We used traditional rabbit skin glue sizes making our own traditional gesso grounds and experimented painting the traditional techniques.

Experimentation

Experimenting with layering and masking. Playing with drawing the audience in creating an intimacy with the images., allowing a slow realization of the content of the image.

Artist Statement
My work involves nude and erotic imagery, which is used to provoke sexual desire or a sense of tease. I aim to empower women by using sex appeal as a tool.  I explore the idea of women being the dominant role and experiment with the idea that, some women like to exploit their body. Some women get self gratification through displaying their body to others; and by using their sex appeal as a tool of empowerment.
I create stitched illustrations of sexual content, primarily hand stitched. I like the idea of the traditional connotations of women stitching, contrasting with the imagery within my work. I use stitching as a drawing and mark making process. Stitching has a very aesthetical side which I like to explore.
